One of the best-known surviving economic buildings in Tihany is the manorial granary be-hind the post office. The granary, built around 1800, is not far from the church and is the largest building in the village.
The two-story, rough-plastered building, in accordance with local customs, is decorated with plain white ribbons, or divided by window frames. The former “Posta alley” now bears the name of Ferenc Mádl, the President of the Republic, and the manor granary built in the late Baroque style is located here. The Németh László Cultural Center operated in the renovated building until 2019. The new Town Square was built in the center of Tihany in 2012. A community venue was created in the square built with plants and terraces, which, in addition to serving the needs of tourists for hospitality, also offers information opportunities and cul-tural programs. The square in front of the building is a rest and event venue, which organizes and serves the programs taking place in the square. The building was renovated again and underwent an internal transformation within the framework of the Balaton Upland Cultural Landscape World Heritage Prospective Site project. A tourist reception center was created on the ground floor of the building, which, among other things, housed the Tourinform of-fice. The first floor will continue to fulfil its previous function as a community space, and the attic will be a museum-pedagogical space for those interested. The Tihany Anno exhibi-tion runs through all three levels of the building, which is an innovative, non-subject-oriented exhibition theme that, based on local values, operates as an attraction providing an experience throughout the year, based on the needs of the target group, with modern techno-logical solutions.
On the ground floor, there is a touchscreen terminal called “My Tihany”, which presents the settlement to the visitor through pictures of Tihany's vacations and trips. There is also a terminal with world heritage content, which presents the country's world heritage sites. On the first floor, you can see an exhibition entitled "Thousand-year-old Tihany in the flow of time", and the hall also functions as a community space for the settlement. The attic is home to an employment space for museum educators.
In addition to maintaining community services, the building intends to become a new tourist visitor center offering a unique experience, in which playful learning, an interactive exhibi-tion enriched with modern and experience-based visual elements, complex visitor manage-ment, and the creation of a world heritage experience point are realized.
