Under the towers of the abbey church, which has stood out majestically for centuries, above the Inner-Lake, in the embrace of the surrounding hills, the Tihany Outdoor Games are held in the summer in a wonderful environment.

The performances serve well the purpose of the vacation, relaxation, recreation, recharge, and demanding entertainment. The stage is one of the pillars of Tihany's cultural image and life.
During the European Union tender renovation, the floor of the stage was replaced, new sound and light technical equipment was purchased, a mobile roof was placed over the stage, and the building was made barrier-free for people living with physical impairment.
In 2021, the stage and service rooms underwent another renovation, during which, among other things, the stage floor was renovated, the auditorium chairs were replaced, and the sound and lighting equipment park was updated.
Since 2004, István Bujtor, the famous Hungarian actor, film director and screenwriter, has been the director of the stage, to whom the cultural recognition of the place is also due. Af-ter his death, in the spring of 2010, the outdoor stage took his name. The memorial plaque of the popular actor greets visitors next to the entrance.
The program series started by István Bujtor has followed a single concept since the begin-ning, our goal is to spread and make available the artistic values of Hungarian and world literature by organizing high-quality, entertaining theater performances and popular music concerts.
During the compilation of the program, a decisive aspect is that both older and younger age groups, as well as holiday guests from abroad and children and families, can find the per-formances for them. We invite successful plays from well-known theaters to the Tihany Outdoor Games, and thanks to guest appearances, we enable a wider audience to enjoy an outstanding cultural experience.
Tens of thousands of spectators are interested in the performances of the Tihany Outdoor Games every year. The palette is very colourful. Comedies, children's and youth plays, mu-sicals and concerts await locals, vacationers in the settlement and the surrounding area each season, but many people also come from further for a play that can otherwise only be seen in the capital's stone theatres. It has hosted premieres of various plays on several occasions.
The quality of the performances is guaranteed by the fact that we select plays from well-known theatres and invite them to the Games, which are presented by nationally known, multi-awarded actors. The "great old ones", including András Kern, János Kulka, Judit Her-nádi or János Gálvölgyi, are regular actors in the plays performed here, but representatives of the younger generation are also happy to play here, for example: Eszter Földes, Sándor Csányi, Csaba Pindroch, Kristof Németh, Vajk Szente, etc.
As the same people have been involved in the organization, management and marketing of the Games since 2004, background work and preparations are also carried out efficiently and quickly. In this way, the invited performances can also be held smoothly on the open-air stage. In addition to light summer evening entertainment, every year there is also an outlook in the direction of more serious genres, such as opera.
